After serving in three branches of the U.S. Military as a medic Don Leflet earned an A.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy, then a B.S. degree in Business with a minor in Human Resources and finally an MBA. He has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Hospice for over a decade. He spent many years in the private sector as Clinical Educator teaching mainly about the respiratory system and pulmonary function. He has performed CPR in the theater of combat and in civilian life while on deployment in disasters with the America Red Cross. It is through his accumulated experiences in the military and in civilian life, combined with his experience as a clinical instructor that he became a CPR instructor for four years with the American Red Cross.
With the demand for classes was on the rise. Don partnership with the America Red Cross creating LifeBeat Consulting to satisfy the needs of the community.
From experience, Don knows the value of CPR and other lifesaving maneuvers taught in his classes and is enthusiastic about passing on his knowledge to others. He emphasizes a curiosity-based approach to learning. He has been criticized for being unconventional compared with the traditional CPR class, yet he covers the fundamental concepts with regard to the standards. The aim of the classroom or hands-on learning is for the participant to understand when, how, and why CPR can save lives. Don believes that learning shouldn’t be a burden; it should be interesting and pleasurable for the learner. We start each class by removing stress and testing anxiety. Then we get into customizing each class to the participant’s expectations and hopefully by the end of the session everyone has a positive experience.
